Getting drunk with Chinese cops!

In Chengdu, Mississippi Bluesman Alex Wand played a rockin blues show at the White Night Bar, which was a big hit with all the Chinese folks.

He even did a duet with the opening act

Wanna hear what Mississippi Bluesman Alex Wand sounds like on the guitar? Well why don't you have a listen:

Well, too bad. The internet here's not good enough to upload the video in less than two hours and I'm not waiting that long.

Well we'd started drinkin beers when we got there, and once we started passing out flags for Chengdu bar-goers to draw on, they kept bringing us beers, and somewhere along the line, I got to thinking it would be a good idea to shoot the video sideways. Also, somewhere along the line someone wanted to make a river flag on my blue shirt, and now my blue shirt says "I love you, welcome to Chengdu" on it in green fabric marker.

After Alex got off, we stayed and hung out with our new friends. I introduced Alex around as "Alex Wand, famous musician! Rock star! Plays all the big cities," and that got all of Alex's new groupies pretty excited, which was a good thing, because when Alex's new groupies were all excited, they kept handing us more beers.

The other musicians playing that night were very interested in Alex's guitar

Well, Alex seemed to be doing pretty well with his new groupies, and it seemed like maybe the ladies had gotten all the convincing they needed that Alex was a famous American blues musician, so I wandered off and made some friends

And then I made some more friends!

They spoke maybe just enough English to offer me more beers, tell me I was the coolest American they'd ever seen, and invite me to play some Chinese drinking games. Fortunately all the Chinese drinking games seemed to be based directly around Rock Paper Scissors. All the ladies kept saying I was very handsome, and then, well, Alex came and joined us and that was the end of that. Here's us with all our new friends!

Around 2:00, Ping came back and told us that we had to wake up around six to go to Chongqing, and she'd spent a lot of money on this trip and she'd be damned if we spent it all hung over. So we left. About halfway back to the hotel, someone ran up behind us panting. It was the goofy looking guy with right in front of Alex Wand in the picture above! He wanted to exchange contact info so we could party next time we came through Chengdu! He told Ping that all the ladies thought we were handsomest Americans they'd ever seen, and that the two guy were local police officers in Chengdu.

Anyway, that's how we ended up getting drunk with Chinese cops.
